4-Day Qatar Itinerary
Day 1 โ Arrival in Doha and Poolside Wind-Down

๐ Arrival: Hamad International Airport (evening)
๐ Taxi to hotel: approx. $12 USD
๐จ Hotel: Riviera Rayhaan Hotel
We landed in Doha on a smooth and comfortable Qatar Airways flight from Istanbul and took a quick taxi to our hotel. The Riviera Rayhaan Hotel was clean, centrally located, and made for an excellent base.
After checking in, we ventured out for a short walk to pick up some fruit and snacks. Although the temperature was intense, it gave us a first taste of the cityโs atmosphere. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing by the hotel pool, which was the perfect way to unwind after our journey.
โ Tip: Doha can be extremely hot even after dark – try to stay hydrated and ease into outdoor activity.
Day 2 โ Morning by the Pool and Sunset Dhow Cruise

We spent the morning by the hotel pool again – the heat was intense by mid-morning, so relaxing in the shade was the best way to start the day.
๐ Pickup: 4.00 pm from the hotel
โต Duration: 1-hour cruise
๐ธ Highlights: Changing of the guard, Doha skyline at sunset
In the afternoon, we were picked up from our hotel for a sunset dhow cruise. It was only a 10-minute drive to the Corniche waterfront, where we boarded a traditional wooden boat for a scenic one-hour trip along the bay.

โ Tip: Even in the evening, itโs hot – wear light clothing and bring water. Some boats offer refreshments, but not all.
One of the unexpected highlights was seeing the changing of the guard near the Palace, complete with camels and full ceremonial dress.
As the sun began to set, the city skyline looked fabulous, so don’t forget your camera!
We returned to the hotel by early evening after a relaxing and very memorable cruise.
Day 3 โ Exploring Modern and Iconic Doha

๐ Sites visited: National Museum of Qatar, The Pearl, Katara Cultural Village
๐ Transport: Private guide with hotel pickup and drop-off
๐ท Standout: Air-conditioned street
After a leisurely morning by the pool and room service lunch, we were ready for more exploring. Our private guide picked us up from the hotel for an afternoon of discovering some of Dohaโs architectural and cultural highlights.
We began with a visit to the National Museum of Qatar. Even if you donโt go inside (we didn’t have time), the desert rose-inspired design of the building alone is worth the visit and certainly one of the most iconic structures to see in Doha.
Next, we visited the Fish Market, followed by a drive through The Pearl, a luxury waterfront area filled with yachts and pricy boutiques. Then it was on to Katara Cultural Village, where we admired the Katara Amphitheatre, a beautiful open-air venue.
โ Tip: Ask your guide to time this outing for late afternoon – itโs still hot, but far more manageable than midday.

One of the most unique experiences was walking along a street cooled by built-in air conditioning. It was pretty unbelievable, but cool air flowed up through the pavement, making a huge difference in the heat. This futuristic feature was both practical and, to be honest, a little surreal.
The entire stretch was lined with cafรฉs and restaurants, making it a perfect place to wander and soak up the atmosphere. We admired a few Ferraris randomly parked on the street, checked out the prices in a few of the shops and avoided shopping in the toy shop shaped like a giant present (as you do!)
Day 4 โ Desert Rose, Designer Streets, and the Souq

๐ Sites visited: National Museum of Qatar, Katara Amphitheatre, The Pearl, Souq
๐ Private guide with hotel pickup and drop-off
๐๏ธ Highlight: Air-conditioned street and the traditional souq
We started the day slowly with breakfast delivered to our room and spent another relaxing hour by the hotel pool. The heat had become familiar by now, so we planned our activities for the cooler hours.
In the afternoon, our private guide picked us up from the hotel for one last adventure around Doha. We returned to a few favourites – the National Museum of Qatar, the Fish Market, The Pearl, and Katara Amphitheatre – to see them in a new light and enjoy another walk through the city’s cultural heart.
โ Tip: If you have the time, revisiting key sights at different times of day gives you a whole new perspective – the light, crowds, and atmosphere can shift completely.
Once again, the air-conditioned pedestrian street amazed us. Even in the blazing afternoon heat, the breeze rising from below the pavement made walking a pleasure. The combination of sleek boutiques, polished cafรฉs, and creative architecture gave the entire area a futuristic feel.
To finish the day, we headed to one of Dohaโs traditional souqs. Here we wandered through stalls selling fragrant spices, colourful clothing, and handmade souvenirs. It was a lively contrast to the polished modernity of earlier stops, and a wonderful way to end our time in the city.
We were dropped back at our hotel in the early evening, grateful for a final day that captured both the past and future of Doha.
Day 5 โ Departure to Sri Lanka

๐ Departure airport: Hamad International Airport
โ๏ธ Destination: Colombo, Sri Lanka
On our final morning in Qatar, we packed up, checked out of the Riviera Rayhaan, and took a taxi to the airport.
From Hamad International Airport, we boarded our flight to Colombo, ready to begin our next adventure in Sri Lanka.

Final Tips for Visiting Qatar

If youโre planning your first visit to Qatar, here are a few helpful things we learned along the way:
๐ก The heat is no joke โ itโs hot year-round, even after dark. Plan outdoor activities for early mornings or late afternoons when possible.
๐งด Pack light, breathable clothing, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated throughout the day.
๐ Taxis are affordable and reliable. We used regular taxis and had private transfers booked with our tours โ both worked well.
๐จ If youโre visiting during the warmer months, choose accommodation with a pool. It made all the difference during the hottest part of the day.
๐ฑ Consider booking private tours with hotel pickup and drop-off โ this made our days smoother and much more comfortable, especially in the heat.
We hope this itinerary helps you plan your own adventure in Qatar!
